Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate need for a Manager of Engineering at our Mansfield Works facility. The Manager will supervise and direct all engineering department activities including short- and long-range planning activities, capital improvement projects, major maintenance projects and product development support, while emphasizing safety, quality, productivity, and cost control.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assign responsibility and direct the staff and contract personnel in the Engineering Department.
  • Provide engineering services and expertise to other departments, including Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Security, and Information Services, and for any other requests for engineering services.
  • Direct the management of capital project activities including development of appropriation requests, project cost estimates, engineering design and specifications, bidding specifications, construction, commissioning and start-up activities, and expenditure monitoring.
  • Act as Project Manager for large capital projects.
  • Prepare short and long-range planning for capital improvement projects.
  • Assist plant maintenance with equipment upgrades, replacements and rebuilds as necessary to maintain optimum production efficiency and equipment availability.
  • Oversee consultants, suppliers and contractors involved in implementing projects.
  • Ensure that the Department staff meet or exceed all safety standards by implementing and effectively utilizing Cleveland-Cliffs safety standards and practices and conform to Cleveland-Cliffs environmental requirements.
  • Prepare the annual budget for Engineering Department.
  • Demonstrate understanding and compliance with the Quality Policy. Utilize the engineering methods, forms, practices & procedures set forth by the corporate engineering department.
  • Prepare reports as requested by Corporate Manager Engineering, Specialty Operations or Mansfield Works General Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • At least 10 years of work experience as a Project Engineer or Project Engineering Manager, including managing major capital projects in engineering and maintenance within an industrial environment, preferably in specialty steelmaking including stainless and electrical steels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A knowledge base in Stainless and Electrical steels processing including EAF, Casting and Hot Rolling
  • At least ten years of experience in engineering, maintenance or project management
